Vipera (A Tribute to the Villainess)

Maleficent has always been my muse. Give me a villainess over a silly princess any day. They have better outfits, lighting, and eyebrows. It’s only appropriate that I give tribute to this dark lady with a potion from the @deathandcompanycocktail book.

2 oz spiced pear-infused tequila*
.5 oz bonded apple brandy @lairdsapplejack
.5 oz yellow chartreuse
Pear slice

Stir all ingredients over ice, strain into glass. Garnish with pear slice (or poison apple slice, if you’re feeling more of an Evil Queen vibe). I will confess that I dislike pears in fruit form - the texture turns me into a cranky dragon. But in this cocktail it’s a bright overtone to the spicy tequila, smoothed by the yellow chartreuse. Be sure to stir thoroughly, until it’s silvery chilled. 💜🍐🖤

 

*I modified the tequila infusion from the Death and Co book for a smaller batch.  Theirs uses an entire bottle of tequila.  Mine is good for 4 cocktails:  combine 1.5 coursely chopped pears (Death and Co says red Anjou; I say whatever the purple ones are that grow on my tree), 1/2 coursely chopped Granny Smith apple, 2 cloves, 1 cinnamon stick and 10 oz tequila (Death and Co says Siembra Azul blanco tequila - I used an anejo because I like its smoother, more subtle roundness).  Cover and let stand at room temperature for a week, stirring daily.  Strain through cheesecloth-lined sieve.
