It’s hard to say where it all started (all good stories begin this way). My obsession with aquavit? My giddy discovery of preserved lemons? My reluctance in ordering Bloody Marys (I often want to dump them halfway through)? An intense hate for store-bought Bloody Mary mix? A desire to impress a cute guy who expresses a passion for aquavit? It’s a story old as time. So let’s just say that all of these things played a part. And let’s call this:
Modern Fairy Tale Bloody Mary
2 oz fresh tomato juice
2 oz celery/dill juice
2 oz aquavit @bullrundistillery
1/4 oz brine of preserved lemons
1/8 oz tamari
Pinch of salt
Pinch of cayenne
Now, this is a little time-intensive. Blend 1.5 oz ripe tomatoes (I used the fantastic Nutri-Bullet); strain juice. Then blend the 3 stalks of celery and a couple of sprigs* of dill, strain that also. Shake all ingredients in a shaker with ice; strain. Once it’s done it’s a match made in heaven. (all good stories end this way).
*Does dill even have “sprigs?” A question for the ages.
