A Classic, but NOT

I love a classic lemon drop; it's the only vodka cocktail I have on my outer rotation list (yes, there is an inner rotation list 😁). Over on Instagram we had a "Cocktail Redux" event to create new versions of old classics.  I tried and tested some parameters to make a new version sing. This was a fun challenge, and a drunken time was had by all.  Here are my parameters for the update:

 


1 - Up your vodka game. Try bison grass vodka for extra flavor, you will not be sorry.
2 - 420 AKA add some herb. I used rosemary here but so many herbs zing with lemon: thyme, basil, marjoram, etc.
3 - Cut the sweet/tart it up. A traditional lemon drop will give your head a major sugar buzz. I've cut the sugar rim and the syrup components, and added grapefruit bitters.
4 - Consider consistency. I love a little texture, it makes a drink complexly pleasing. Olive oil gives it a smooth mouthfeel and transfixing eyefeel.

Lemon Drop Redux 🍋🙃

2 oz bison grass vodka
1 oz fresh lemon juice
1/4 oz lemon infused olive oil
1/4 oz rosemary simple syrup
1 tsp/barspoon Cointreau 
2-3 dashes grapefruit bitters

Stir all ingredients over ice, strain. Personally, I love a drink that looks like a lava lamp. But if you have no sense of adventure, you can shake the f*ck out of it - it won't separate for a while, or fat wash the vodka with the olive oil.
